The album is a compilation of individual tunes which I created from 2003-2009 in
my spare time, with no single concept overall, inspired by sounds, rhythms and experimentation.
I don't know how to fit it to any particular genre, but it does include electronic,
traditional, orchestral pop, some ambience and a bit of trance influence. The main
driver is strong melody.
An Avid music fan and collector for many years I have always wanted to compose and
produce my own tunes, but time, money and access to the hi-tech equipment needed
to realise my ambition was not there. I wanted to use the synths of Jean-Michel-Jarre
and Vangelis, and use a full blown orchestra for my arrangements!
In recent years computer technology has made this wild dream possible, so I have
spent hours weeks and months plugged into my computer (most unsociable) learning
how to manipulate sound samples, soundfonts, synths etc and then playing sequencing
arranging and mixing. The tunes on this album are what came out of this long learning
I love the tunes and hope that you do, but I still have much to learn and would love
to hear your comments. These will help me to make the next one even better.
01 NEON DAWN
Reminiscent of 80's indie style with bassline and echoey piano sounds. Steady opener.
02 THE BEEHIVE
Lively dance of the bees, using a blend of standard trance rhythms and a symmetrical
pattern. One of my early tracks but still a favourite.
03 WIND IN HER HAIR
Romantic arrangement and uplifting melody on strings and oboe, oldie style with galloping
beat. Love this one.
Intended as a quiet opening track this became a ten minute epic, and my favourite
to date. A cutting melody and three stages of grief are all here.
05 LIFE GOES ON
After Remembrance I needed a mood lifter. It took a while but this calm relaxing
three beat melody does the trick.
06 MY SECRET GARDEN
A fantasy track with a backdrop of natural sounds: birds, water, gate creaking. Use
of flutes, oboe, guitar & harp, complemented by the wonderful Classic OB2 SF.
07 MARINE TWILIGHT
I love the sound of the sea, so here it is. An electronic fantasy journey with the
Born from the sounds and chords in Marine Twilight this is an upbeat cheeky melody
with lively trance rhythms
Here's what can be done with a few soundloops over a weekend. Pretty lively, with
an odd sound for lead instrument
10 MOVING ON
Travel was on my mind here. Harmonised square wave makes interesting choochoo sound,
some dramatic strings, and a bassline which moves it all along.
